Custom 3D Printing Overview
3D printing is most valuable when the process supports a clear question. We review the part's purpose, geometry, material behaviour, surface expectation and delivery target before proposing the route.
Select the route
3D Printing Process Comparison
SLA / DLP
Fine visual detail and smooth surface
A route for detailed resin parts and appearance models.SLS
Functional polymer geometry
A route for polymer parts without dedicated support structures and suitable nested geometry.MJF
Functional polymer parts and small sets
A route for consistent polymer parts with post-processing options.METAL ADDITIVE
Complex metal geometry
A route considered when the geometry and program support additive manufacture with post-processing and inspection.A clearer printing RFQ
3D Printing Capabilities
Define what the part must prove
Fit, appearance, airflow, strength, flexibility, temperature or a functional assembly each point to a different route.
Select process and material
FDM, SLA/DLP, SLS, MJF or metal additive manufacturing is reviewed with the material, geometry and expected use.
Finish the functional requirement
Finishing, inserts, tapping, machining, coating or assembly can be included where they help the part perform its role.
Review and move forward
Inspect the agreed features, learn from the physical part and use the result to inform the next design or manufacturing route.
Printing process, materials, achievable dimensions and accuracy are reviewed against the individual part and accepted project scope.

Materials and post-processing
Materials by Process
Common options include PLA, ABS, PETG, PA12, TPU and engineering resins, plus aluminum, stainless steel and titanium for suitable metal additive projects.
Finishes and secondary operations
Sanding, bead blasting, dyeing, painting, polishing, machining and plating can be included where the intended part experience requires them.
Complete the interfaces
Tapping, threaded inserts, simple assembly and CNC finishing can be scoped alongside the print when they support fit, repeatability or functional use.
Make the material choice intentional
Material selection is reviewed around stiffness, impact, heat, flexibility, appearance, chemical exposure and the part's intended environment.
Design for additive manufacturing
Design Review for Additive Manufacturing
Orientation, visible surfaces, support strategy, local features, channels, interfaces and functional load direction are reviewed before the print route is selected.
- Part orientation and support marks
- Wall thickness, holes, channels and trapped material
- Mating interfaces, threads, inserts and post-machining allowance
- Functional loads, operating environment and inspection datum

From print to informed decision
Inspection and Quality Documentation
Quality control and documentation are matched to the agreed requirements, from a practical first article through to dimensional reports and material certificates where needed.
- First article review where required
- Full or sampled inspection matched to the order
- Dimensional reports for agreed critical features
- Material certificates where required
- Post-processing and assembly in the agreed scope
